2XO The Vinyl Blend Kentucky Straight Bourbon

Only 40% of this bourbon gets the second barrel.

That 40% is Dixon Dedman's high-rye bourbon (35% rye), given nine to 12 months in new oak charred to #4. The second barrel is the whole 2XO idea: Two Times Oak. Char #4 is a long burn, sometimes called alligator char because the wood cracks into scales, and it leaves plenty of caramelized sugar for the whiskey to pull from. The other 60% is split evenly between the same high-rye bourbon without the extra barrel and a softer bourbon at 18% rye.

That's a different build from the Kiawah and Sneakerhead Blends, which are 60% double-barreled and use two char levels.

The name is 2XO's ode to Dedman's love of music on vinyl. "Classic vinyl was how we listened to music growing up in my parent's house," he said at the April 2025 launch, and these days his ritual is an album and a neat pour. It was the sixth release in his Icon Series, which 2XO now calls the Collectibles Series. Whisky Advocate scored it 91.

Pour it neat at 104 proof, then add a few drops of water and see if the pineapple comes forward.

FAQ

What does "char #4" mean?
Barrel makers burn the inside of a new barrel before it's filled, and the number says how long. #4 is the longest common level. The burned layer is where much of bourbon's color, vanilla, and caramel come from.

Is this the same as Rapper's Delight?
No. Rapper's Delight is the next release in the same series, No. 7, and it's mostly double-barreled high-rye. Vinyl is 40% double-barreled. Both are 104 proof.

Is it still made?
2XO now lists the Vinyl Blend with its previous releases rather than its current lineup.
