Virginia Distillery Co. Hardywood Gingerbread Stout Cask American Single Malt

This single malt finished in barrels that held a holiday beer.

Hardywood Gingerbread Stout is a seasonal beer from Hardywood Park Craft Brewery in Richmond, Virginia. Virginia Distillery Co., just under 100 miles away in Lovingston, took barrels that had held it and finished its single malt in them.

It's part of The Brewer's Coalition, Virginia Distillery's series of whiskies finished in brewery barrels. The base is its American single malt: 100% malted barley, distilled in copper pot stills built in Scotland and aged over five years in ex-bourbon barrels before the stout barrels.

This is the second edition, released in late 2025. The back label says thirty barrels went into it.

It's 100 proof, so it holds up in a glass with one big ice cube. It also makes a good hot toddy base in December.

Why is the bottle 700ml?
Virginia Distillery bottles its Brewer's Coalition releases in 700ml, a size US rules have allowed since December 2020.
